The text is obviously hidden/invisible and many thin lines cut across the image which happens on many other games.
Using the default to start the game, it works as correctly as it could but if I check e.g. fog, I get corrupted/distorted image.
If I uncheck the fog and start the game again, the corruption/distortion is still present even after rest emu.
The only way is to delete the ini entry for Mace and it will work correctly again.
